Hemp fiber is one of the most durable of all natural textile
fibers and will outlast synthetics by many, many years.
PLEASE NOTE:
Hemp is a natural
textile, and as such, is also biodegradable. Although it is
very strong and long lasting, like any other natural fabric,
it will deteriorate with excessive washing, or prolonged
periods of being 'soaking wet',
i.e. the softer your pet's collar or leash gets, the more prone
it will be for the fibres to start to break down. Your products
should last a long time with normal wear and tear, but they
are not indestructible!
Washing
Products made from
hemp can be washed following the same guidelines as with any
other natural fiber:
- We recommend
washing with Beeswax soap (no toxins) as you want to retain
the natural properties of the hemp - that's why you bought
it in the first place, right! Beeswax soap should be readily
available in most grocery stores and drug stores.
-
For
stains such as grass, blood, 'poop', chocolate, or milk,
etc. it is best to wash in cold water.
-
If
grease gets on the article, wash in warm water.
-
Do
not use a fabric softener, as it can make fabrics more flammable,
rather
-
Add
a little baking soda to the wash water as it helps make
fabrics more fire retardent.
-
It
is best to let your hemp products dry naturally, rather
than putting them in a dryer.
- If the item
is really, really wet - you could put it in the dryer on 'Tumble'
or 'Delicate' for a short time, then remove and lay flat on
a towel to complete the drying process.
- Tumble dry (again
for a short time period) could also be used if for some reason
the item has stretched and you would like to shrink it back
to the former size.
Hemp
is a soft fiber that gets even softer with wear (age) and
washing.
Hints
Specific To Your Dog's Hemp Collars, Leashes, Jewellery
-
If
the item you have purchased has wooden beads as part
of the design, try not to let it get too wet for too
long! Wooden beads, especially if they get saturated,
will expand, and may warp or split. A little water shouldn't
hurt, and the sooner you can let it dry, the better!
-
It
is best to hand wash and then lay on a clean towel to
dry.
-
With
normal use of the collar and leash, frequent washing
should not be necessary at all.
-
As
noted above, it there are specifc stains, it is best
to clean as soon as possible.
